Veteran spinner Jason Krejza has taken six wickets to help Tasmania bowl NSW out for a below-par 230 in the one-day match at Bellerive in Hobart.
Krejza finished with figures of 6-55 from 11.5 overs and added a catch in the outfield to cap a stunning afternoon's work as the Blues failed to capitalise on a century from former Test batsman Usman Khawaja.
The 29-year-old took the key wickets of Nic Maddinson (31 off 46 balls) and Steve Smith (45 off 64), the only NSW batsmen to provide any real support to Khawaja in a match the Blues must win to keep their finals hopes alive.
Khawaja returned to the venue of his most recent Test innings to stand head and shoulders above his team-mates in making a neat 100 off 106 balls.
The former Test No.3 received a life when Mark Cosgrove dropped him at slip when he was just seven before producing a stylish knock that included nine fours and three sixes.
NSW looked to be in a solid position when Khawaja fell at 3-157 but too many of their batsmen holed out to poor shots and they collapsed, losing their last five wickets for just 18 runs.
The 29-year-old Krejza took the wickets of Ben Rohrer and Peter Nevill in the 44th over to reduce the Blues to 7-218, ensuring the visitors would struggle to post a competitive total.
Tasmania will go top of the table with a win and into the box seat to host the final on February 25.
