A jockey who tested positive to a methamphetamine at a Hobart race meeting has been suspended from racing for six months.

Racing Services Tasmania Stewards investigated a report that the drug, D-Methamphetamine, was present in a urine sample that David Pires gave at the Tasmanian Racing Club on May 24.

Pires pleaded guilty to the charge and two months of the penalty can be suspended once he has completed a drug awareness program.

He can return to racing in December.
