Cornthwaite avoids bail conditions

Adelaide United defender Robert Cornthwaite has faced the Magistrates Court charged with assaulting a bouncer at a Hindley Street nightclub in August.

He also charged with refusing to give his name and address to police.

The police prosecutor told the court Cornthwaite, 24, has not been given a standard bail condition preventing him from travelling interstate without warning, despite that being legally required.

He suggested removing all bail conditions, a move supported by the defence lawyer who said the public would come down on Cornthwaite 'like a ton of bricks' if he 'steps out of line again'.

The bouncer involved in the alleged attack needed eye surgery.

The magistrate cancelled the bail agreement and ordered Cornthwaite to return to court next month.

Cornthwaite has been sanctioned by his club over the matter.
