Bird's girlfriend tells appeal about drug use

The girlfriend of former NRL player Greg Bird has told a court that she snorted a prescription drug the night before she was injured at their home in southern Sydney.

Katie Milligan has returned to the witness box at the District Court today.

Bird is appealing against his conviction and sentence for glassing her in the face.

The court yesterday heard that it was an accident that happened when she lunged at him with a glass, and that they lied about it when blaming a flatmate.

Ms Milligan has today said she snorted a prescription drug before the incident occurred.

She said she told a nurse that the flatmate was responsible because hospital staff were not showing sufficient urgency when treating her injuries.

Ms Milligan has repeatedly denied that Bird was responsible for her injuries.

The prosecutor has accused her of continuing to concoct a huge lie and suggested that Bird had thrown the glass in her face.

She replied "no, not at all."

The hearing continues.
